Home to the largest number of lions left in the world, Tanzania is undoubtedly the best place to see these majestic animals up close and in the wild. Every year, thousands of tourists visit the East African country to go on safari amid its breathtaking scenery. The Serengeti alone is thought to be home to around 3,000 lions.

In the extensive plains, groups of lions are often seen. Dusk and dawn are both their most active periods and preferred hunting times, and you can sometimes see them stalking prey throughout the day.

In addition to Serengeti National Park, both Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ruaha National Park are home to large populations of feral predators.

2. Okavango Delta Botswana Lions

The main attraction in Botswana is undoubtedly the national parks. It’s wildlife with a large amount of protected nature and wilderness. Lions are common throughout the country, and the most spectacular place to see them is in the Okavango Delta; One of the most unique and unforgettable safari destinations on earth.

Although lions normally dislike water, in the Delta they have learned to navigate channels, floodplains, and even islands in search of prey. Botswana’s big cats are most notable for hunting and bringing down not only antelope and gazelle but also buffalo, hippopotamus, and adult elephants.

3. Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

A year-round destination with amazing access and visibility. Also, the best place in the world to see and photograph wild lions. This is the most famous lion habitat in the world.

As you can imagine there are some great places to stay. Governor’s Camp and Recaro Camp are both excellent. Wildlife conservancies bordering the edge of the reserve, such as Mara North Conservancy (Richards Camp) and Olare-Motorogi Conservancy (Kicheche Bush Camp), also offer fantastic big cat game viewing.

Londolozi covers an area of 150 square kilometers and is part of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, located on the western edge of the Kruger National Park.

Londolozi offers fantastic views of lions – their specialty along with leopards. We were there in April and saw a large pride of black men and females and cubs. Driver-guides ensure you enjoy a first-class safari away from the maddening crowds. We stayed at Founders Camp.

5. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

An unusual attraction of the national park is the lions of Ishasha in the southern part of the protected area, which have climbed trees. The region is off the main roads and hence is frequently visited.

As for the tree lions, researchers suspect that on the one hand, they enjoy the cool breeze of the treetops, on the other hand, they want to escape from tsetse flies and other pesky insects on the ground, and in addition, to have a better idea of their surroundings and potential prey at the top. An analysis is available. Food is still eaten on the ground. Other best places to see lions
